Abstract
This study was designed to identify the causes of failure and effective repair
strategies for the MIG 500k Welding Machine at PT Vista Maritim Indonesia. The purpose of this study was to analyze the causes of defects in the company's welding machines. One effort in analyzing failures is to minimize damage to the machines, as the welding machines frequently used are MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding machines. As a result, the machines experience significant downtime during operation, while the need for machine capacity continues to increase along with the expansion of the company's ongoing projects. These failures not only reduce optimal machine performance but are also influenced by various complex internal factors. From product damage or failure, factors influencing component defects in the welding machine are identified through the highest Risk Priority Number (RPN) results, which are used to suggest repairs for the MIG welding machine. Therefore, the Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) method was used in this study, which ranks the RPN values from highest to lowest and then analyzes the highest values to serve as a reference for suggesting repairs to the MIG welding machine. The approach taken includes direct field observation, collection of maintenance personnel failure data, systematic component testing, and postrepair system performance evaluation to ensure desirability and productivity improvements
