Abstract

The reliability of production tools plays an important role in maintaining productivity and output stability in manufacturing industries. PT Simatelex Manufactory Batam utilizes electric screwdrivers as critical tools in the assembly process of coffee maker products. However, frequent failures of internal components, particularly NTC thermistors, have contributed to repeated tool breakdowns and production disruptions. This study aims to analyze thermistor failures in electric screwdrivers and propose improvement recommendations to enhance tool reliability and reduce operational disturbances. The research was conducted using maintenance monitoring data collected over a three-month period, including records of thermistor failure types such as thermistor broken, thermistor cracked, and burnt thermistor. Root Cause Analysis (RCA) supported by fishbone diagram and Five Whys analysis was applied to identify the main causes of thermistor failure, while the Pareto diagram was used to determine dominant failure types. The results indicate that thermistor cracking is the most frequent failure mode, followed by broken and burnt thermistors. Based on the analysis, improvement recommendations were proposed to mitigate recurring failures and improve maintenance effectiveness. This study is expected to provide practical insights for maintenance teams in improving electric screwdriver reliability and supporting production continuity.
