Abstract
The use of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines in the manufacturing industry necessitates a readily operable Human Machine Interface (HMI), whereas existing software commonly features complex interfaces that pose difficulties for operators with limited expertise. This study aims to design, implement, and verify the reliability of a Microsoft Visual C# based HMI for mini CNC machine operation that is more user-friendly and informative. Verification was conducted through specification-based dynamic testing employing State Transition Testing, referring to the ISO/IEC/IEEE 29119-3 test documentation standard. The test model was designed to encompass 4 operational states, 7 transitions, 20 test cases, and 4 test procedures. The results indicate that, of the 20 test cases executed, 15 test cases
passed, yielding a success rate of 75%, thereby verifying that all primary functions, namely connection, g-code import and execution, jog control, homing, emergency stop, and manual g-code editing, operated in accordance with the design. Conversely, 5 test cases failed, all of which were associated with null transition scenarios resulting from the absence of a state-locking mechanism on several control buttons. Overall, the developed HMI has proven capable of functionally
supporting mini CNC machine operation, with recommendations for refining the state-locking mechanism to enhance system safety and reliability prior to full-scale
operational deployment.
