Abstract
Maxpower Cogindo Batam has been operating since April 2022 and produces 30 MW of electricity. This research is based on the importance of exhaust gas temperature as an operational parameter that affects engine efficiency and performance. The purpose of this study is to analyze how exhaust gas temperature affect the engine performance, as well as to compare efficiency and heat rate under normal and 30% derating conditions. The method used is quantitative with primary and secondary data collection and includes literature studies, field observations which will then be analyzed. The results show that an increase in exhaust gas temperature above a predetermined set point can cause the engine to experience derating which has an impact on decreasing output power, decreasing efficiency, and increasing heat rate. The relationship between heat rate and gas engine efficiency is inversely proportional. When the heat rate value is higher, the gas engine efficiency will be lower. The lowest efficiency value of the three months of research was on August 25, 2024 with a value of 43.3% and the highest heat rate also occurred on August 25, 2024 with a value of 8,529.39 BTU/kWh. Maintenance carried out to overcome the problem of rising exhaust gas temperatures is to make repairs to problematic parts such as setting the fuel rack, replacing ignition system components such as prechamber, spark plugs, and spark plug connectors.
