Abstract

Technological advancements and digitalization have expanded public access to a wide range of investment instruments, spanning both real assets and capital market investments. However, this increased access has not been matched by a commensurate level of financial literacy. A lack of financial literacy can hinder an individual's ability to understand risks and make sound investment decisions. This study aims to analyze influence of financial literacy and risk perception on investment preferences—specifically regarding real assets and capital market investments—among working-age individuals in Batam City. A quantitative approach utilizing a causal-comparative method was employed. Data were collected via questionnaires distributed to working-age individuals who either have an interest in investing or possess prior investment experience. Purposive sampling was used, targeting a sample size of 400 respondents. Data analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression with the aid of statistical software. The study variables include financial literacy and risk perception as independent variables, and preferences for real asset and capital market investments as dependent variables. This research contributes to development of behavioral finance and offers valuable insights for financial institutions and the government in their efforts to enhance public financial literacy education.
