Identification of Freight Forwarder Company Strategy to Avoid Unloading Demurrage: Case Study at PT Melvin Prima Perkasa, Batam City

Abstract

This study aims to identify the factors causing and the impacts of demurrage costs at PT. Melvin Prima Perkasa, as well as to develop strategies to prevent or reduce these costs. A qualitative method was used with a descriptive approach, SWOT analysis, and Fishbone analysis. Data analysis was conducted using SWOT and Fishbone. Data collection techniques involved interviews, observations, and documentation. The results showed that unloading delays were caused by document delays, equipment limitations, and weather conditions that could result in a full dock. The impacts include burdens on the company's cash flow, disruptions in the logistics flow, production delays, and price instability that reduces the company's competitiveness. Recommended prevention strategies include ensuring document completeness, coordinating with related parties, evaluating employees, and arranging timely demurrage payments
