Abstract
Batam City faced a serious waste management problem, with waste volume reaching approximately 1,300 tons per day. The Waste Sorting Movement had been implemented as a government initiative, yet it lacked a visual identity to strengthen campaign communication with the public. This study designed a three-dimensional mascot named Gong as a visual identity for the Waste Sorting Movement in Batam City and measured public perception of the design. The mascot design process applied a five-stage model adapted from a brand design method, and the mascot was visualized using Blender software with a box modeling technique in a low-poly style. Perception testing was conducted through an online questionnaire using a five-point Likert scale involving seventy respondents domiciled in Batam City, covering visual design and appeal, message clarity, and persuasive potential, with a total of fourteen items. The results showed a positive public perception, with an overall average score of 79.83 percent, categorized as Good. These findings indicated that the Gong mascot was well received visually, effectively communicated the campaign message, and showed potential to encourage public participation, making it a viable alternative visual identity for stakeholders to consider.
