Abstract

Abstract In the manufacturing industry, each stage of the production process plays an important role in ensuring the final product's quality. One such stage that affects surface quality is the sandblasting process, a technique that involves spraying high-pressure abrasive particles to remove dirt, rust, and to create specific surface textures, allowing protective coatings to adhere properly. This research was conducted at PT. XYZ, a manufacturing company that produces various spare parts for specific industries, including gear transmission rings (GTR). A common issue encountered during the sandblasting process of GTR is the inconsistent shape of the grooves, caused by unstable air pressure, uneven distribution of abrasive particles, and tooling design that does not sufficiently support the stability of the workpiece position. As a solution, a tooling was developed using 6000 series aluminum, which is lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and has good dimensional stability. The main objective of this study is to design and test new tooling that can improve the stability of the workpiece during the sandblasting process, reduce groove variation, and accelerate measurement using a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM). The results are expected to enhance both the efficiency and the overall quality of the production process.
