Abstract

Generation Z's limited understanding of the environmental impacts of fast fashion thrifting is one of the factors contributing to irresponsible fashion consumption behavior. Therefore, this study aims to develop an e-magazine as an educational medium to raise Generation Z's awareness of the environmental impacts of fast fashion thrifting in Batam City. The Research and Development (R&D) methodology was employed in this study, following the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) and involved 30 Generation Z respondents in Batam City. Before implementation, media and language experts validated the developed product. Data were obtained through pretest and posttest instruments and analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk test, the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, and N-Gain analysis. The Shapiro–Wilk test showed that the pretest and posttest data were not normally distributed, so the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test was used for hypothesis testing. The hypothesis test produced a p-value <0.001, resulting in the rejection of H₀ and acceptance of H₁, indicating a statistically significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores. Furthermore, respondents' average comprehension score increased by 10.67 points after using the e-magazine, while an effect size of 1.00 indicates a very large effect. The outcome indicates that the newly developed e-magazine successfully increases the level of understanding among Generation Z of the environmental impacts of fast fashion thrifting and is suitable for use as an educational medium.
