dc.description.abstractWelding is the process of joining two or more materials using electrodes, one factor that must be considered is the treatment of the electrode itself. Previous research may have shown the benefits of electrode heating treatment on carbon steel material in producing stable welded joints. The aim of this research is to understand the treatment of using the E-7016 Tenax electrode which does not refer to manufacturing standards. The methodology used in this research is treatment using electrodes outside the electrode manufacturing standards for a time range of 8 hours to 3 weeks without controlling the electrodes. The results of this research show that electrodes that are outside the maximum standard electrode usage limits will produce joint designs that are not optimal and uncontrolled and cause welding defects such as arc strike, spatter, porosity and poor profile. From the results of the entire welding sample specimen it can be concluded that Surface welding electrodes that can still be minimized are specimens of 08-72 hours, while for specimens of 1-3 weeks surface welding electrodes cannot be tolerated.
