Abstract
This research was conducted to identify and analyze time and resource wastage in the pipe transportation process at PT. SMOE using Value Stream Mapping (VSM) and Fishbone Diagram methods. The primary focus was on improving operational efficiency by understanding the root causes of inefficiencies in transporting pipes from storage areas to construction sites. VSM was employed to map the value stream of this process, while the Fishbone Diagram was used to identify key factors such as inaccurate pipe location recording and inefficient warehouse management. The analysis indicates that the types of waste occurring in pipe handling at PT. SMOE are transportation, waiting, and unnecessary movements. Several contributing factors were analyzed using fishbone diagrams and the 5W 1H method. Repeated confirmations, lack of accurate recording of pipe storage locations, non-implementation of VSM and lead time, as well as lack of motivation and training, are significant causes of waste in the pipe spool handling/transportation process. By identifying these root causes of waste, PT. SMOE is expected to improve their operational efficiency and optimize overall project performance.
