Abstract

Network switches are essential components of computer network infrastructure that facilitate data communication between devices in manufacturing environments. At PT Sumitomo Wiring Systems Batam Indonesia, switch monitoring is still performed manually, resulting in delays in detecting network failures that may disrupt operational activities. This study aims to design and develop a web-based network switch monitoring system capable of automatically monitoring device status, storing monitoring history, and sending email notifications to network administrators whenever a device status changes. The system was developed using the Research and Development (R&D) approach combined with the Waterfall model of the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC). PHP, MySQL, Bootstrap, and PHPMailer with the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) were employed in the implementation. Functional testing using the Black Box Testing method on nine system modules demonstrated that all functions operated as expected. Performance evaluation showed an average response time of 4.07 seconds from the moment a network failure was detected until the notification email was received by the administrator. The proposed system enables centralized switch monitoring without requiring SNMP configuration or additional monitoring agents, while providing automated email notifications and historical monitoring records to support faster fault detection and reduce network downtime
