Abstract

The Riau Islands Province is characterized by its archipelagic nature and diverse physical land conditions; consequently, spatial-based mapping is needed to identify agricultural land potential more effectively. This study aims to map the Agricultural Land Potential Index (IPL) using a Geographic Information System (GIS) in the Riau Islands Province. The data used include slope gradient, soil type, lithology, hydrology, and flood risk. The study was conducted using scoring and overlay methods with ArcGIS software. The research findings show that the agricultural land potential in the Riau Islands Province is divided into four classes: very low, low, moderate, and high. Low- to medium class areas dominate the study area, while high-class areas are scattered only in specific locations with more favorable physical land conditions. The resulting IPL map can be used as a source of spatial information for agricultural area development planning, land resource management, and determining land-use priorities.
