Abstract
The jacket platform fabrication process is one of the important stages in an offshore project. One of the important
components in the platform is the bracing pipe which functions to strengthen the platform structure. The correct
dimensions of the bracing pipe are very important to ensure the strength and stability of the platform. Measuring the
dimensions of bracing pipes during the fabrication process is usually done using a measuring tape and tape measure. This
method has several limitations, such as low accuracy and requires a long time. The total station is a modern measuring
instrument that can be used to overcome these limitations. Total stations can measure distances, angles and elevations with
a high degree of accuracy. This research aims to apply a total station in the process of measuring the dimensions of bracing
pipes at PT. McDermott Batam Indonesia. The measurement method using a total station will be compared with the
conventional method using a measuring tape and meter. It is hoped that the results of this research will provide information
about the advantages and disadvantages of each measurement method, as well as provide recommendations for the most
appropriate measurement methods to be used in the jacket platform fabrication process. Measuring the straightness,
levelness and length of bracing dimensions is a key element in ensuring structural integrity and operational safety in the oil
and gas industry. This research discusses the use of the Leica TS11 total station measuring instrument with the set
orientation method to obtain accurate and consistent data on bracing structures. The set orientation method is used to
calibrate measuring instruments with reference to predetermined control points, thereby allowing more precise
measurements. The conclusion of this research is that the use of the Leica TS11 total station with the set orientation method
is very effective for measuring critical parameters in the oil and gas industry. The use of this technology can increase
efficiency and accuracy in the process of monitoring and maintaining bracing structures, thus contributing to operational
safety and reducing the risk of structural failure.
