Abstract
Drug abuse remains a serious issue in Indonesia, with marijuana being the most commonly abused illicit drug. Although various anti-drug campaigns have been implemented, educational content specifically addressing the risks of marijuana on cognitive functions remain limited, particularly within local institutions such as the Badan Narkotika Nasional (BNN) of Batam City. This study aims to design a motion graphic animation as an engaging and accessible educational medium to enhance public awareness, especially among the residents of Batam aged 15-28 years, regarding the harmful effects of marijuana on cognitive abilities, including memory impairment, executive dysfunction, and reduced information-processing capacity. This study employs the Multimedia Development Life Cycle (MDLC), which consists of six stages: concept, design, material collecting, assembly, testing, and distribution. Data were collected through literature review, expert validation, and questionnaire distribution using a Likert scale. The media expert evaluation achieved a feasibility score of 78% (Feasible), while the subject matter expert evaluation obtained 98% (Highly Feasible) and the user response testing involving 73 respondents, of whom 58 were within the intended target audience resulted in a feasibility score of 93.53% (Highly Feasible), indicating that the motion graphic can deliver educational messages regarding the cognitive effects of marijuana abuse. Therefore, the study successfully achieved its objective of developing a feasible motion graphic with a duration of 75 second, entitled Kabut di Otak: Efek Ganja Pada Kognisi (Fog in the Brain: The Effects of Marijuana on Cognition) as an educational medium, which is suitable motion graphic for dissemination through the official digital platforms of BNN Batam.
