Abstract

Description

Pollution in waterways caused by inorganic waste is an environmental problem that is constantly increasing and requires appropriate solutions to address it. Limited human oversight is one of the main causes of this increased pollution. This research tests an automatic inorganic waste detection system on the water surface using the YOLOv11 method. This system is designed to identify five classes of waste, namely plastic bottles, cans, glass bottles, plastic bags (mixed waste), and cardboard, with the aim of improving the efficiency of monitoring the aquatic environment. In this system, the dataset is collected independently using a webcam and online sources. Real-time testing results using the webcam show that the model achieves an average accuracy of 91.93% for single detection, and for multiple detection, the model achieves an average accuracy of 77%. Testing of this system was conducted during the day with sunlight. These results indicate that the YOLOv11 method is an effective and reliable method for detecting inorganic waste on the water surface.
