Abstract
The Boeing 737-900ER is the latest variant of the Boeing 737 airplane equipped with a windshield that
allows the pilot to observe the outside environment with some visibility. During the C-check maintenance
process, a crack was detected on the No. 1 R/H windshield. The visual inspection identified this crack as
interlayer degradation. The objective of this study is to determine the cause of the interlayer degradation
and make appropriate repairs. The methodology used includes interviews with engineers and mechanics,
and a literature review to gather relevant information and data. The results showed that the interlayer
degradation was caused by overheating of the windshield, which caused the resistance to exceed the
normal limit of 31.4-35.1 ohms. As a corrective measure, the damaged windshield was replaced. The
resistance measurement of the windshield heater after the component replacement showed a value of 31.9
ohms, which corresponds to the normal limit of resistance for the heat sensor on the windshield.
